What to Do in Case of Emergency

If a problem arises, it is usually something that is easily repaired. However, if you have a problem that needs to be addressed before you can reach us please call the Emergency Dental Service Number at (416-485-7121). Most difficulties can be addressed during our office hours, or you can leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.

Loose Brackets or Bands

Call our office immediately. During office hours, if you are experiencing some discomfort, we will see you immediately to relieve the discomfort and then schedule the appropriate appointment to do the necessary repairs. If the patient is comfortable, we will schedule the earliest available appointment to repair the broken braces.

Wire Irritations

Call our office immediately to schedule an emergency visit. If the wire is scraping the cheek or tongue cover it with wax. If that does not help try to cut off the part that is sticking in and call the office to schedule an emergency visit. Sometimes it is possible to bend the wire back into place.

Lost Separators

Most patients lose a separator during their treatment. Do not worry about losing a separator, but call our office to see if it needs to be replaced.

Discomfort with Orthodontic Treatment

During the first week after your braces are in place and routine adjustments are complete, you will likely feel some pain, soreness or discomfort. You may take acetaminophen or other non-aspirin pain relievers while you adjust to your new braces. A warm wash cloth or heating pad may reduce the soreness in your jaws.
